Codico Distributors Is Proud To Support Oasis House

Being on lockdown has been tough on everyone, we are missing our family, friends, and our daily routines. However, this difficult time has also seen a rise in the number of calls from women experiencing domestic abuse. Garda figures show an 18% year on year increase in calls relating to domestic incidents, while Taoiseach Micheál Martin recently acknowledged the increased levels of domestic violence as an impact of the recent restrictions. Many charities and campaigners are now urging communities to be vigilant, and encourage women who are experiencing domestic violence to reach out and seek support. During the previous lockdown, Women’s Aid noted a 43% increase in calls from women in these difficult situations.

At a time where home should be a refuge for many, it has become apparent that this is not always the case.

From learning of these stats, Codico was compelled to help in any way we could, Codico has been a long-time supporter of Oasis House, and felt that this organisation could greatly benefit from support at this difficult time. Oasis House was established in 1989 and provides safe supported accommodation and a range of support services to the needs of women and women with their children who are experiencing domestic violence and/or homelessness. In addition to the 24-hour crisis/emergency accommodation service, Oasis House also provides a 24-Hour Helpline, Court Accompaniment Service, Outreach Service, Drop-in Support & Information Service, Advocacy, and a therapeutic programme for children whose lives have been impacted by domestic abuse called TLC Kidz. Oasis House also provides education, training, and awareness-raising in the community concerning domestic abuse.

Speaking about supporting Oasis House, Margaret Bond, Managing Director, said; “We have supported Oasis House throughout the years, however now more than ever this worthy organisation needs support. We sincerely hope that our donation of 2,500 can enable Oasis House to continue to support women and their children who find themselves experiencing domestic violence and homelessness.”
